UPDATE (Saturday 8:29 p.m.): Boilers bring Old Oaken Bucket back to West Lafayette

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Purdue's football team ended their up and down season on a high note Saturday, defeating rival Indiana 38-21 for the Old Oaken Bucket.

The day could not have started much better for Purdue (5-7, 4-4), as junior defensive end Ryan Kerrigan flew into the Hoosier backfield and blindsided quarterback Ben Chappell, forcing him to fumble. Freshman tackle Kawann Short would recover for the Boilers who would score five plays later when senior quarterback threw his first of four touchdown passes, this one a six yard toss into the flat to fellow senior Jaycen Taylor.

On Indiana's next drive, the Hoosiers would drive into Purdue territory, reaching the Boiler 31 yard line, only to see senior corner David Pender block a 48-yard Nick Freeland field goal attempt. Purdue would quickly cash in with another Elliott touchdown pass, this one from four yards out to junior running back Dan Dierking. Passing to his running backs would be a recurring theme for Elliott who, Mid way through the second quarter, found sophomore fullback Jared Crank for a 13 yard touchdown pass, putting Purdue up 21-0.
