Men's tennis team to play Louisville

By Brian Peloza
Staff Writer

The Purdue men's tennis team will be looking to start its own winning streak, while ending its opponents, when it meets Louisville today.

The match is at 1 p.m. at the Lafayette Sports Center. The match was initially supposed to be played at the Varsity courts, but due to the inclement weather predictions, the match will be played inside.

The Boilers are ranked 57th in the nation and bring a 5-4 record into the match. Louisville is 13-3 and ranked 40th in the nation.

Louisville has won six matches in a row and 10 of its last 11. Purdue will be looking to start its own winning streak after defeating the Northern Illinois Huskies last Friday 8-0. In their previous match, the Boilers lost to Notre Dame 6-1.

Because of Louisville's winning streak, Coach Tim Madden expects a tough match.

"Louisville is going to come in with a lot of confidence and a high amount of energy," Madden said.

The task of extending winning streaks will not only be relegated to the team scores. Freshman Andrew Wakefield will be trying to win his eighth singles match in a row.

The Boilers will be looking to gain some momentum before heading to a tough road trip. The Boilers will play against Southern California in Los Angeles on March 16. Purdue will stay in California for their match against Pepperdine on March 17.

The trip will be a homecoming for two Boilers. Sophomore Derek Miller and Freshman Carl McCafferty both hail from California.
