Candidates to present election plans to PSG

Students will be able to get a sneak peak at the student body presidential and vice presidential candidates at tonight's Purdue Student Government meeting.

According to Bryan Lares, student body vice president and a senior in the School of Management, it is a tradition to have each candidate give a five—minute speech about his/her election plans.

Candidates will be allowed to speak about their plans for the organization, their platform ideas, qualifications and so on.

Following the presentations, the senate will hold a question-and-answer session. However, PSG members will be the only individuals allowed to ask questions.

Students will be able to ask each ticket questions at a debate expected to be held on March 30. The tickets include Chris McManama, a junior in the School of Management and John Gerber, a junior in the School of Management; Jim Vaca, a junior in the School of Management, and Patrick Mondi, a junior in the School of Technology; and Clay Slaughter, a freshman in the School of Science, and Kurt Weiand, a junior in the School of Liberal Arts.

Elections will be held on April 4, 5 and 6.

"I think elections have been running very smoothly so far; the candidates have been doing a great job of getting their message out," said Lares.

Lares said he believes — with some of the programs that PSG has sponsored this year along with how well the student body president and vice president have been working with the administration regarding student issues — the student body understands that the elections are important and should be paying attention to what the individual tickets stand for.

PSG members will also be discussing the plans for the "Association of Big Ten Students Summer 2000 Conference," which will be held at Purdue this summer.

The meeting will be held at 7 p.m in Stewart Center, Room 322.
