Students host Indonesian FestFrom Staff Reports The Purdue Indonesian Student Association will be hosting its annual Indonesian Festival featuring food and exhibits from the Indonesian culture. The festival will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Morton Community Center, 222 N. Chauncey Ave, in West Lafayette. Theo Simarmata, a graduate student and member of the group, said that the festival can confer an understanding of Indonesian culture. "People hear about Indonesia," said Simarmata, "but they don't know about Indonesia." The faculty adviser for the group, Frank Piercy, concurred. He said there's a lot of talk about diversity at Purdue and this is "an opportunity to actually experience a culture quite different than American culture." Piercy described the festival as "50 Indonesian students preparing performances and food for a wonderful cultural event." The festival will also feature a cultural show from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Simarmata said tickets have been sold out for the show itself, but anyone can go to enjoy the booths and food. |
