Student senses problems with censusAs an out-of-state student, I am outraged by the policies of Census 2000. My permanent residence is in Wisconsin, yet I am being forced to submit my census form as though I am a resident of Indiana. The state of Indiana will receive federal funds based on the number of residents it has. This fund allocation hurts the state in which I actually live. Also, if the state of Indiana receives the benefit of my being a resident, in the form of funding, why don't I receive the same benefit, in the form of in-state tuition? How is it that the federal government can say that I am an Indiana resident, but the state and the University can say otherwise? Steven Pappas junior, Schools of Engineering |
