Student group to rally, hunger strike to beginFrom Staff Reports Purdue Students Against Sweatshops will hold a rally at 4 p.m. today in Memorial Mall to kick off a hunger strike. This rally is in response to what members of the organization feel is a lack of action by Purdue's administration in terms of the University's position concerning sweatshop labor. Community members and student activists from Purdue and Indiana University will speak at the rally. There will also be a march to Hovde Hall of Administration with the end of the rally marking the beginning of the hunger strike. Many supporters will be staying at the Memorial Mall for the duration of the hunger strike, according to a statement. The organization supports the Worker Rights Consortium, a factory-monitoring group that will have its founding meeting in April. |
