Destructive rioting embarrasses school

Where the hell is this destructive rioting coming from, Purdue?

In the last five days, people across the nation have watched our destructive antics on CNN and The Today Show. You’d think our administration doubled tuition or outlawed campus bars.

No, wait; we made it to the Elite Eight but not to the Final Four.

Oh, the horror.

Busting windows, starting fires, picking fights, tearing out light posts, wrecking garbage cans, trespassing, tipping cars … the list goes on and on. On a larger scale, similar behavior transpired following the Rodney King and OJ Simpson decisions or the cop beatings and shootings of ethnic minorities in New York City.

So, what’s our noble reason for destructive frolicking? Well, considering we're coming from middle-class, white privileged corn country — maybe there just aren’t enough cows to tip?

Are Purdue students so anal retentive and repressed that starting fires and wreaking havoc become second nature when there’s something to celebrate or be sad about?
