Few hotels have vacancies
in May
From Staff Reports
Graduating seniors who haven't secured
hotel rooms for Mom, Dad and Grandma might be hosting their family members
on the apartment floor.
Nearly every hotel in the Greater Lafayette
area is booked or over-booked, with the exception of a few that are charging
an average of $200 a night with a two-night minimum.
Everything from the Holiday Inn Express
to the Ramada, Radisson, University Inn and Travelodge are sold out for
May 12 and 13.
Rick Moore, front desk clerk with Comfort
Suites, said his hotel started filling up in early January.
"We started getting calls around the first
of the year
basically when kids have a pretty good idea that they're
going to graduate on time, they start calling."
The hotels that do have limited availability
are the Family Inn in West Lafayette, and the Hampton Inn and Homewood
Suites in Lafayette. However, the Hampton Inn and Homewood Suites are
mandating a two-night stay with prices ranging from $139 to $259.
Students who are panicking about having
houseguests on graduation weekend can also seek rooms in cities that are
30 minutes to an hour away, such as Crawfordsville, Frankfort, Logansport
and Indianapolis.
Another option might be to do an Internet
search for a hotel room. Priceline.com, for instance, will search your
location, availability and rate for you.
Finally, the Purdue residence halls will
be offering some dorm rooms to family members who need a place to stay.
Prices and availability should be checked with Purdue residence halls
at 494-1000.
