Panel to define Grand Prix rules of proper behaviorA 21st century Grand Prix convocation featuring a community standards panel will be held at 7 tonight at Mackey Arena. The panel consisting of County Court Judge Zeman and representatives from the Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Office, Indiana State Excise Police Department, Indiana State Police Department, Lafayette Police Department, West Lafayette Police Department, Purdue University Police Department and the Office of the Dean of Students will inform students on what they can and cannot do during Grand Prix weekend. They will also be on hand to answer any questions from the audience concerning rules regarding Grand Prix parties and celebrations. Jewish Studies program offers two events as part of its seriesThe Jewish Studies program will offer two events as part of its Lecture Series program and its Spring Film Series. "Crimes and Misdemeanors," a film chronicling the tensions of urban Jewish life in America, will be shown at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in Room 2290 of the Liberal Arts and Education Building. Robert Alter, professor of Hebrew and Comparative Literature at the University of California at Berkeley, will present a lecture at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday in the Krannert Auditorium. It will be part of the Jewish Studies Program Public Lecture Series. The topic will be "The Bible ad the Challenge of Interpretation." The lecture is open to the public.
Program offers two classes for adult students this fallTwo courses will be offered this fall through the Span Plan program to help acquaint adult students with Purdue. General Studies 190 is a one credit minicourse called "An Orientation Seminar for Adult Learners." This course will cover study skills, testtaking strategies, stress and time management, library instruction, career testing and selfesteem issues. The course is a sixweek course and will meet at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, beginning Aug. 21 and ending Sept. 24. Educational Psychoeducational Studies 200X, "Life Career Planning for Adults," is also being offered to help adults explore their educational and career options through selfevaluation, decisionmaking and career planning. Tippecanoe Public Library unveils several programsThe Tippecanoe County Public Library will be unveiling several new programs and services at 4:30 today in Meeting Room B of the library. New services include DVDs and others. The meeting will be part of National Library Week, which began Sunday and will end Saturday. Students win cash prizes at environmental contestNumerous Purdue students won $12,000 in cash prizes at the 10th annual WERC Environmental Design Contest held April 3 to 6 at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, N.M. WERC, a consortium for environmental, education and technology development, hosted more than 350 university and high school students and 80 judges for the competition that combined realworld environmental problems and students' creative solutions. Twenty Purdue students and three advisers Inez Hua, Loring Niles and Rondal Wukasch participated in three of the six tasks. The team won first place in task three pipeline waste removal, task four jewelry manufacturing waste disposal and second place in task eight metal recovery from an open pit mine. Purdue took first place overall honors and a total of $12,000 in prize money, as well as the Waste Nuclear Services traveling trophy that is awarded to the top winner each year. The winners were determined by judges' ratings, based on a written and oral reports and poster presentation along with a working benchscale model.
