Big Bird to perform at Purdue
By Matt Holsapple "Can you tell me how to get to Sesame Street?" Go to the Elliott Hall of Music this week. Students will be able to revisit characters that were influential in many of their early childhood's when Big Bird, Cookie Monster and the rest of the Sesame Street characters perform on campus tonight and Wednesday. "Sesame Street Live," a show featuring characters from the Public Broadcasting Service, will bring dancing, singing and education at 7 p.m. today and Wednesday to the Elliott Hall of Music. There will be a family matinee at 4 p.m. on Wednesday. This year marks the 20th anniversary of "Sesame Street Live." There are currently three different shows touring North America, and this production is titled "When I Grow Up." The show is a Broadway style with songs, dancing, comedy and audience participation. Characters in the performance include old favorites like Oscar the Grouch, Grover, and Bert and Ernie as well as newer characters like Zoe, Rosita and Oscars girlfriend, Grundgetta the Grouch. In "When I Grow Up" the characters dream about the careers they would like to have. Children are sure to be entertained by seeing such things as Oscar the Grouch as a ballet dancer and Telly Monster as a baseball player. "Sesame Street Live" is different from what is typically presented by Purdue Convocations because it will give families with small children the possibility to see a production that they will all enjoy. While the show is designed with children in mind, it also appeals to students wishing to revisit their youth or just looking for a fun way to spend a night. Tickets range from $2 to $15 depending on the performance and the number purchased. They are available at the campus box office and through Ticketmaster. These "Sesame Street Live" performances are being brought to you by the letters "H" an "S" and the number 5. |
