Gene Keady's hair makes 'Late Show'

Coach Gene Keady instructs the Boilers during an NCAA tournament game earlier this season. Keady's hair has been the focus of a running joke on "The Late Show with David Letterman," and as a result he may appear on the show.

Not only is Purdue basketball coach Gene Keady not offended by a running David Letterman joke aimed at his hairdo, he is considering an appearance on the comedian's late-night talk show.

"The Late Show with David Letterman" has been mentioning false sponsors for its Campaign 2000 segment, which runs nightly as part of the show. The sponsors include heart bypass surgery, Elian Gonzalez, and Purdue basketball. For the Purdue ad, a video clip of Keady ranting on the sideline plays as Late Show announcer Alan Kalter says, "Purdue basketball — It'll comb you over!"

Keady, however, said he doesn't mind jokes aimed at his hair.

"I don't care what they think about it," said Keady. "It's all the hair I've got. If I cared, I'd change it."

Keady is so open-minded that he may appear on the show in the near future to talk to Letterman, an Indiana native and Ball State graduate.

Purdue denies applications

Purdue has reached its limit on incoming freshmen sooner than at any other time in University history due to a record number of applicants.

This means that no more applications from freshmen are being accepted, but applications from transfer students, returning students and international students are still being reviewed because the programs and classes that those categories of students typically fill still have room. These programs include upper level classes, which freshmen cannot enter into.

Animals suffer secret abuse

Maybe it's the fact that puppies are so squishy and defenseless that makes killing or hurting them so gruesome and disturbing to the public.

Last week, one puppy died of massive internal injuries after being hurled against an apartment wall, and another puppy is in serious condition with back, skull and eye injuries after being slung against the same wall.
