Golf team finishes 12th at invitational

The Purdue men's golf team finished 12th in the field of 17 Saturday at the Ohio State Kepler Invitational.

The Boilermakers, who were in 14th place after 36 rounds, totaled a 304 over the final 18 holes to move up two spots with a 54-hole score of 919. Northwestern won the tournament with an 876, followed by Ohio State (886), Toledo (897) and Michigan (897). The Boilermakers finished ahead of Big Ten foes Iowa (929, T14th), Michigan State (929, T14th) and Illinois (953, 17th).

Leading the way for the Boilermakers were freshmen Chris Mayson and Peter Karmis. Both shot 74 on the par-72 course in the final round to finish tied for 33rd. Mayson and Karmis were tied for 61st heading into Saturday's action.

Also improving his position was sophomore Lee Williamson, who shot a 75 to finish, tied for 48th. He moved up 19 places (T67th) from Saturday.

Senior Colby Huffman, who led the Boilermakers through the first 36 holes, shot an 81 to finish tied for 60th, while sophomore Jason Bukowski carded an 82 to place tied for 78th.

Purdue's next tournament is the First Energy Invitational, which will be hosted by the University of Akron in Akron, Ohio, on April 22-23.
