Smashing Pumpkins tickets remain available for tonightThere are a few tickets left for tonight's Smashing Pumpkins concert for $25 each. All tickets are available at the campus box offices in Elliott Hall and in Stewart Center. Those attending the concert should be aware that back packs, cameras, audio equipment, weapons, glass bottles, cans, alcoholic beverages and illegal substances will not be permitted into the concert. There will be no opening act before the Smashing Pumpkins perform at 8 tonight in the Elliott Hall of Music.
Visiting speaker to discuss synthetic, molecular biologyThe department of medicinal chemistry and molecular pharmacology will host a seminar at 4 p.m. Thursday in the Heine Pharmacy Building Room 164. The speaker will be Robert Hammer from the department of chemistry at Louisiana State University. The lecture is called "Peptide Structure and Function: Synthetic and Molecular Biology approaches to developing Bioactive Peptide Analogs." A reception will be held outside Room 164 at 3:40 p.m. that same day.
Wesley Foundation to hold study about Passion WeekStarting on Monday and running through Friday, the Wesley Foundation will observe Passion Week with the fifth annual Passion Week Study. Entitled "Journey to the Cross," this year's theme is "What a Wondrous Love is This? A Journey to the Cross from a Woman's Perspective." The study will focus on personal faith journeys from a woman's perspective to include Easter as a time of personal reflection and will be led by area religious leaders, educators and students. The guest speakers for the week include Rev. Katharine Lehman, Lafayette District superintendent; Rev. Kim Reisman of Lafayette Trinity United Methodist Church and New Roads; Janet Chaille, a senior in the School of Liberal Arts and a member of the Wesley Foundation; and Suzanne Clemenz, an instructor in the Purdue women's studies department. Group to hold poster session about problem-based learningFaculty who use problem-based learning will gather on Thursday to present poster sessions on their work. Sponsored by the Problem-Based Learning Group of the Center for Instructional Excellence, the poster session will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Room 302 of Stewart Center. The Problem-Based Learning Group was formed last year and its mission is to facilitate critical thinking and problem-solving through problem based learning techniques. The volunteer group is made up of faculty from various schools on the West Lafayette campus. The poster session will provide faculty an opportunity to learn how colleagues are using problem-based learning in the classroom, field and laboratory. Faculty who are using some from of problem-based learning to develop students' critical thinking and problem solving skills are encouraged to participate in the program. Forms of problem-based learning include: case study method, classic problem-based learning, thematic learning and project learning. Hicks library to remain open 24 hours a day during finalsThe Hicks Undergraduate library will be open 24 hours a day beginning on Sunday and extending until May 6. This is done for the convenience of students studying for final exams.
Campus organizations to host mock trial of alcohol violationsNumerous organizations will host a mock trial at 7 p.m. tonight in Loeb Playhouse. The mock trial will focus on the repercussions of alcohol violations and will feature County Court Judge Laura Zeman. The Office of the Dean of Students, the Panhellenic Association, the Interfraternity Council and the Cooperative Council will host the event. |
