Community shows concern Commissioners hear complaints against stripperBy Jessica Webster Angry neighbors complained to the Tippecanoe County Commissioners Monday about a Lafayette stripper who dances on her front lawn with a 10-foot pole. The neighbors even showed a home video of visibly mobile and sparsely dressed Kim Mattes, the Fillys dancer who asserts she is simply exercising on private property. The video showed Mattes in thong-like bottoms and a sports top, dancing perhaps exercising in her driveway with a chair. Concerned neighbor Sherri DesEnfants provided a running commentary. "See, see. There she is bending over, spanking herself, spanking herself I don't know what kind of exercise that is," said DesEnfants. "We're here for our children. Our (complaints) have not been taken seriously by law enforcement. Is one person's rights more important than a whole community's?" [MORE] Circus animal care prompts protesters
Monday night at the Tippecanoe County Fairgrounds, Students In Defense of Animals protested silently against Circus Pages and what they believe to be cruelty against animals. They had signs expressing such protests as "Stop animal abuse," " boycott the circus" and pictures of a chained elephant. "I'm here because I'm an ecology major and I believe that animals are supposed to be in the wild, not here," said Barbara Clucas, a sophomore in the School of Science. "Animals shouldn't be in a circus, even if they are taken care of. Keeping them in cages just disgusts me." The protesters didn't disgust any of the circus-goers, although they did catch most of the circus-goers' attention. A humvee, a truck and a few cars even honked in support as they drove by the protesters. [MORE] Referendum causes debateOne student organization is claiming victory because of the results of a Purdue Student Government referendum. Students had the option last week to vote on three referendums after voting for a PSG ticket. The third referendum asked for votes concerning Purdue's involvement with sweatshops. [MORE]
