Greg Bozarth, a freshman in the School of Management, holds the mouse he captured in his neighbors' room in Shreve Residence Hall. Six mice were caught by residents of Shreve.

Six mice have been found on the first floor of Shreve Residence Hall, and residents are none too thrilled about the pesky rodents.

"I was emotionally disturbed when I first saw the mice. I feel violated," said Greg Bozarth, a freshman in the School of Management and a resident of Shreve.

Bozarth and his roommate, Blake Sievers, a freshman in the School of Liberal Arts, are neighbors to the mice, which were found in the room next to theirs.

"Something needs to be done about this," said Bozarth. "I feel like I'm living in a zoo. My world has been turned upside down."

Curtis Koebcke's room is the home of the rodents, and Koebcke said he has caught a total of six mice within the past two to three weeks.

"I think it's disgusting," said Koebcke, a sophomore in the School of Technology. "My roommate told me he saw one and I didn't believe him at first, and then we caught one in the trash can. We had to actually catch one of the mice to get them to do something about it."

Bozarth said four or five of the residents from the first floor went to the front desk on April 9 with one of the four mice that was captured in a trash can in Koebcke's room.

"The girl at the front desk freaked out and told us to take it to the staff resident who told us to throw it outside," said Sievers. "But I'm sure he went to the head people of Shreve so they could do something about it. If we have mice, there's got to be something wrong. "

Bozarth said the girl at the front desk told them the residence hall would contact the right people and would handle the problem.

Kris Schraeder, manager of Shreve, said that she has received a report of mice in Shreve and that prompt action was taken to rid the mice from the room.

"There have been reports of mice, and it's pretty much all taken care of at this point," said Schraeder. "They need to let us know as soon as possible so we can do something about it."

Schraeder said the facility staff was notified and traps have been set. She encourages all residents to contact a counselor or the main office if a problem occurs.

Schraeder said most problems with rodents occur from people keeping the outside doors open, not shutting screens all the way and leaving food out in the rooms.

Sievers said the hall has set traps in Koebcke's room. "Basically, the traps are the only thing they can do except call an exterminator, but the University might be too cheap to call an exterminator," said Sievers.

Koebcke said people from the Shreve office have come to his room, filled the holes around the pipes of his heater and have since taken the mice traps out of his room.
