Software letter has inaccuraciesI would like to respond to Nate Leech's letter to the editor in the April 20 Exponent concerning copying devices. Why stop at software? All computers should be banned from campus, as they too are evil tools of the devil. We can burn them at the next Purdue Students Against (insert topic here) rally on the Memorial Mall lawn. This should soon be followed by the outlawing of electricity for it too is taint or a reasonable facsimile there of. Then we can cut off all communication with the evil outside world. This way we can limit entertainment to traveling storytellers and minstrels. OK, OK, before our freshman friend Nate gets all bent out of shape or Olivia Conroy blames something else on those of us obtaining those dreaded science-related degrees, yes, this is sarcasm. Nate, the only reason Napster would be banned by a university is because of the strain on bandwidth. This is why Indiana University shut it off to its students. Now if you've been following along, you would know that they have since lifted this ban since they have upgraded their systems. By the way, who ever said MP3s were illegal? I haven't read about a single court case that has found MP3s or MP3-related equipment to be unlawful. Nate, I do sincerely hope your letter was an attempt at sarcasm, though a poor one at that. Surely you can't be this misguided. Michael Lah junior, Schools of Engineering
