Senior reflects on professor's impactThose of us who are graduating in a couple of weeks have had many tremendous experiences and opportunities while at Purdue. We have not only been involved in a challenging academic environment, but have also been challenged by the University environment and the students and professors with whom we have interacted. Of those classes and professors that have been a part of our Purdue experience, one class and one professor have affected a huge portion of us. Unfortunately, future students will not be able to personally experience Sociology 100 as taught by Dr. Daryl Evans. Anyone who ever met Dr. Evans could not help but be affected by him. He had a love of sociology, and an immeasurable love of his students. In one word, he was inspiring. He inspired his students to think and to dream. It is a tremendous loss to all students, the discipline of sociology and to the world that Dr. Evans is no longer with us. However, we, as students of Dr. Evans, can continue to keep his spirit alive. Please remember your experience with Dr. Evans as you graduate. Remember his passion, generosity and spirit of dreaming. Incorporate these characteristics into the pursuit of your own dreams and you will change the world. Emily Fairchild Johnson senior, School of Liberal Arts |
