WNBA's Miracle decide on Boiler

Former Purdue forward Jannon Roland was selected by the Orlando Miracle in the WNBA draft on Tuesday.

The Miracle chose Roland, who played at Purdue from 1994-97, in the second round of the draft with the 20th overall pick. The 6-foot-1 Roland played an integral role on Purdue's back-to-back Big Ten championship-winning teams in 1994 and 1995 and helped advance the Boilermakers to their first ever NCAA Women's Final Four in 1994.

Roland averaged 13.5 points and 4.7 rebounds per game in her four-year career at Purdue. And during her senior season, she averaged 18.9 points per game and was named Big Ten player of the year and earned honorable mention All-America status. After graduating, she played professionally for the Columbus Quest and the New England Blizzard in the now defunct American Basketball League.

With Orlando's selection, Roland will get a chance to reunite with another former Boiler who's part of the Miracle organization. Carolyn Peck, who was the head coach at Purdue from 1997-99, is now the coach and general manager at Orlando.

"Jannon is a player that never says die, she is a fierce competitor," said Peck, who was an assistant at Purdue when Roland was a senior. "She will always give you an opportunity to win. Jannon will definitely turn up the intensity in practice right away."
