Copy Cat, Purdue land dispute heats upPurdue and Copy Cat, Inc. in the Village are in the midst of a lawsuit largely concerning Copy Cat's future in West Lafayette. The University, which is planning on starting a $38.5 million project to add to the Krannert School of Management, is suing Copy Cat to get its land. Krannert would expand east toward the Village taking out some of the businesses in the area, Copy Cat included. The dispute has been going on for some time. In February 2000 Purdue purchased the land Copy Cat sits on from Floyd Fairfield, its owner. In the complaint filed by Purdue it states that "Fairfield agreed to sell and Purdue agreed to purchase the premises in lieu of Purdue having to proceed with a condemnation action." A condemnation action is similar to eminent domain, in which the government can purchase private land for public use at a fair market value. [MORE] RSC to undergo renovation
Students who plan on using the Recreational Sports Center will have to deal with construction to improve different areas of the complex. Carol Stickel, director of recreational services, said that the improvements are mostly for ventilation of the center. "We are working on the main gym and the north/south gym on ventilation improvement. As you know it gets hot in here, this will improve the conditions," she said. Besides the construction of the new aquatic center behind the RSC, there are three main projects that will be worked on inside the center. The first project will be to tear down the current running track in the main gym. A new rail and new track will be replaced as well as new ventilation and a new sprinkler system. The track will close on May 8 and will not be completed until Nov. 1. [MORE]
