Purdue names new president

Purdue announced Tuesday that Martin C. Jischke, president of Iowa State University, will take over as the University's 10th president later this summer.

Tim McGinley, chairman of the Purdue Board of Trustees, made the announcement at an 11 a.m. press conference in Loeb Playhouse in front of a crowd of 500 onlookers. Jischke will replace Steven Beering, who will retire after

17 years as president. The trustees are expected to endorse the appointment at their June 1 meeting. Jischke is expected to assume the presidency on Aug. 14, one week before classes begin for the fall semester. Jischke (pronounced JIS-key) was one of the final five candidates forwarded to the trustees by a 14-member search committee led by McGinley and composed of trustees, faculty, students, administrators and alumni.

Jischke has shown his excellence at fundraising, having brought in donations of over $100 million for the past three years, but many students and faculty are not impressed considering what they think that he has caused the university to lose.

Donations aid school expansion

A $10 million donation to the Krannert School of Management has finally made the expansion project a reality.

The donation, made by Krannert alumnus Jerry Rawls, has pushed the donation totals to $35.4 million, enough to cover the construction costs of the new facility, which will be located at the corner of Grant and State Streets across the street from the existing Krannert building.
