Purdue names new president
By Kelly Lucas Purdue announced Tuesday to a crowd of approximately 500 people that Martin Jischke, former president of Iowa State University, will become Purdue's 10th president. "This is an extraordinary honor; we are eager to become members of the Purdue family," said Jischke, who was accompanied by his wife, Patty. The crowd, consisting of mainly Purdue faculty, rose to its feet and sang "Hail Purdue" to welcome Jischke as the new president. However, the decision to name Jischke as the next Purdue president is not yet official. The Board of Trustees will meet on June 1 to confirm the appointment of Jischke. According to Tim McGinley, president of the search committee and chairman of the Board of Trustees, all trustees have committed to voting for the appointment of Jischke.
