Matt Holsapple

The news that Martin Jischke was leaving Iowa State University was met with reactions ranging from "Very sorry to see him go" to "Thank God."

Jischke announced Tuesday that he would be resigning as the president of Iowa State to assume the president's position at Purdue, starting Aug. 14. Members of the Iowa State community are split on their response to the announcement.

Many of the school's administrators expressed regret to Jischke's departure.

Warren Madden, vice president for business and finance at Iowa State, praised Jischke's tenure at Iowa State and said that he will be missed.

"I've found him an excellent person to work with. I'm sorry to see him leave Iowa State," Madden said.

Clarkson Kelly a member of the Iowa Board of Regents agreed with Madden.

The new Wabash 9 Theatre opened Wednesday. Barely.

The theater currently stands polished above the dirt and construction equipment which is to become the new Wabash Landing Plaza. An orange hazard fence stretched from the parking lot to the doorway, covering dirt with bare grey carpet.

Inside workers hurried to vacuum up the dust and wood shavings. Others put the letters up to denote which bathroom was the men's and which the women's and which was the box office. Fifteen minutes before the theater opened the computer system was still down, so no tickets could be purchased by the large crowd waiting outside in the rapidly fading sunlight. Half of the neon on the outside of the theater struggled to work.
