List provides 101 items to do in Lafayette areaBy Laura Pelner Students and members of the greater Lafayette area who are low on cash and looking for something to do may find the "101 Free Things to do in Tippecanoe County" list, published by the Greater Lafayette Convention and Visitors Bureau (GLCVB), a good source of different activities for people of all ages, throughout the entire year. Employees at the GLCVB who have lived in the Lafayette area for some time compiled the list. Paula Woods, the Public Relations Coordinator at the GLCVB, said, "I've lived here a long time and some of the others have too. We got started thinking of things that would not cost anything, but would be interesting." Woods also added that along with the GLCVB employees, compiling the list was like a community effort. "I think we have input from people from 10 to 12 years up to people in their 70's," said Wood. "We hope there are some things in there that everyone would think is fun." "People are always asking, what is there to do in Tippecanoe County?" said Woods. To that end, she said the list was made so that people would know at least 101 possibilities. There is no specific order to the list. It is not ranked or seasonal. Furthermore, Woods emphasized that some of the activities are very common while others are more obscure. Rachel Zulich, a visitor information specialist at the GLCVB and also a student at Purdue, agreed with Woods. She said the list gives people a new aspect about things to do in Lafayette. "It is stuff that is different from the norm," said Zulich. She added that this is especially true for students on Purdue's campus who may need a break from studying and school work, or simply want to try something new. "Normally all I would do is go to the movies or go out to eat, this is something different," said Zulich. The list is intended for anyone in the Lafayette area, yet Zulich said that it is especially great for Purdue students because everything is free and the activities are not what someone would normally think of doing. Woods similarly said that some of the activities are little and not something most people would have thought about. She said that this should draw attention to new recreational possibilities that are really available to anyone, free of charge. "101 Free Things to do in Tippecanoe County" has attracted quite a few people. "I know a lot of people call to get it, and I know others get it off the web site," said Zulich Woods added that they usually get very positive responses and is something the community really likes. "They think it is fun and enjoyable," said Woods.
