Job opportunities availableBy Heather Holman Students who will be looking for a job during the school year won't have to look any farther than their University residences. Rebecca Ross, human resource specialist for the Housing and Food Services Human Resource team, said students are able to find a variety of jobs. Positions within the University residences include food services, clerical work and service cleaning. In some of the residences there are also mini-marts, grills and coffee shops where students are able to work. Students may be relieved to know that no experience is needed. "There is training," Ross said. "There isn't really any experience required." The hours a student is required to work vary. "Some work four hours, others work 20," Ross said. Bobbi Thomas, food manager at Meredith Hall, said that they are very flexible with students schedules. She said some people work two hours here and there just to get some extra spending money and others will work four hours. If students are interested in applying for a job they can go to the front desk of their University residences when they arrive in the fall. Students can also apply on-line at the Housing and Food Services Web site, www.adpc.purdue.edu/HFS. Working within the University residences is a great experience for students. "It's good for social (interaction)," Ross said. "You get to meet people you normally wouldn't meet." Thomas agreed with this as well. She said students work with a lot of other college students and get to meet a lot of people that work in the building. Ross also said that working in the residences is convenient. It is not a job that requires a car and some jobs offer growth with student positions. "It is also good to show that you worked during college," Ross said. For more information visit the Housing and Food Services Web site, www.adpc.purdue.edu/HFS or call Rebecca Ross at 494-9418. |
