CityBus provides free bus service

By Heather Holman
Summer Reporter

New students may be relieved to know that they won't have to walk all over the city to get to where they need to be.

CityBus, a system of buses that travel around the West Lafayette and Lafayette area, is free to all Purdue students.

"(CityBus) is very easy to use," said Michael Kuzmich, manager of development for CityBus. "All you need to do is take your ID with you."

There are several different campus routes, called loops and shuttles that travel through campus. The Gold, Silver, Bronze and Black loops, Tower Acre and Rose-Ade shuttles take students to University buildings, University residences and other places around the Purdue campus.

These routes are in service during the fall and spring semesters. The campus routes do not run in the summer sessions because there are not enough riders who use the services on campus.

Students are not limited to only campus destinations. Kuzmich said that CityBus gets people where they need to be.

People can take buses to the Tippecanoe Mall, Wal-Mart, movie theaters, Meijer and many other places off campus.

Buses generally begin the day at 6:15 a.m. Campus buses start at 7 a.m. and services continue until 6 p.m. There is also a bus loop that travels until 12 a.m. through the week.

The buses run every 10 minutes on weekdays. On the weekends there is a bus that runs until 3 a.m. called the Night Rider.

All of the CityBus routes are free to Purdue students if they show the driver their student IDs.

Kuzmich said CityBus is very beneficial to students. Students do not have to worry about parking passes, finding a parking spot or getting a parking ticket.

"Students have plenty of other things to worry about," Kuzmich said. "(CityBus) makes college life easier."

CityBus will be available to answer any questions during the Days on Campus. They will be located outside of the Card Services Office located in the Purdue Memorial Union, where students will be receiving their student IDs.

Kuzmich said they will be distributing maps, schedules and brochures at their table. There will also be information in all the University Residences and in the Visitor Information Center.
