Boeing 737 returns to Purdue
By Keith Thomas To the joy of those in the department of aviation technology, Purdue's Boeing 737 was returned home on Monday afternoon following an eight-month research mission. The smooth landing at the Purdue Airport was most likely the last for the 30-year old aircraft. According to Allen Bailey, chief engineer of Boeing certification/737 program, those watching the aircraft approach and land saw the last flight Purdue's cockpit and cabin classroom will ever make. "You probably just saw the last time this plane will ever fly," said Bailey, although he admits it is still completely capable of flying. Student loan rates to increase July 1The federal government is allowing students and families, who have college loans to consolidate their payments into one and lock in current rates by June 30. The interest rates will increase on July 1. The interest rates are raising in range from 1.15 percent to 1.20 percent, said Joe Seaman, the president for Bank One in Lafayette. As of now, the rates are between 6.32 percent and 7.72 percent; however, they could rise up to 7.59 percent to 8.99 percent
