Group handles registration poorlyI am writing this letter in hopes of gaining the attention of the student group that was directly responsible for myself and several others being unable to vote in the elections this year. To be more specific, there was a group registering voters in the booth near the Sweet Shop (in Purdue Memorial Union) around the end of September. I happened to be walking by and decided to re-register in Tippecanoe County, so that I wouldn't have to use an absentee ballot. The young woman in the booth told me to just fill out the form and she would send it in. Weeks later, I called the voter registration office as I had not received any information about which location I should vote at. I was informed by the woman at the office that there was no record of my registration as this group had not sent in the forms. Unfortunately, it was too late to send an absentee ballot at that point. Apparently, several other students had called with a similar situation to my own. I'd just like to say that I was actually well-informed and prepared to vote this year, yet was unable to because of a group that must have been performing this "service" activity only for show. With all the talk of increasing voting among people our age, I find it sad that quite a few Purdue students who wanted to vote were unable to do so because of the irresponsibility of this group. I would advise the members of this group to behave less fraudulently in the future. Robyn McGimsey |
