Organization deceives votersI have recently heard from people on campus that we need to increase our voting turnout for local and national elections. I fully agree, and I had been looking forward to voting in my first presidential election on Tuesday. That is, of course, until I found out that those who ran the registration table outside of LAEB had somehow managed to ruin my day, over a month in advance. You see, I performed my civic duty; I filled out my registration form and I waited for my voting card. It never came, but more seasoned voters said that did not matter, just go to the poll, and youll be on a list. So I went over to the poll, stood in line waiting for my turn, only to find out that I was not on the list, or in the system at all for that matter! So I ask these students who were supposed to register me, how do you expect to decrease our campus political apathy if you dont even register those students who do care? The man at the poll reassured me that I was one of many he had turn away because they were not properly registered by campus organizations. I know that I will vote in the next election, but what about the others who were left out; can we be sure about them? There is a lesson to be learned in this: next time register at a government office! Hilary Snover |
