If You Go What: Corey
Cerovsek |
A former child prodigy will take the stage at Purdue this weekend.
Corey Cerovsek, a violin virtuoso, will perform a solo concert at 3 p.m. Sunday at Loeb Playhouse. The concert is presented by Purdue Convocations; tickets are $15 for students and $21 for the general public.
Cerovsek performed at Purdue years ago as a teen-age soloist as part of the Discovery Artist series.
Cerovsek has been excelling in music since the age of five, when he started studying the violin. At age nine, he won the grand prize in the Canadian Music Competition beating over 3,000 competitors and graduated from the prestigious Torontos Royal Conservatory of Music at the age of 12.
That same year, he was accepted to Indiana University and received bachelors degrees in mathematics and music at age 15. He received his master's in both at 16. He completed his doctoral work when he was just 18 years old.
Cerovsek, now 27, has performed with symphony orchestras all over the United States, including Philadelphia, Denver and San Francisco. He has also been a featured soloist with orchestras in Berlin, Toronto, Sydney and many international cities.
Cerovseks concert on Sunday will include works by such composers as Brahms and Wieniawski and a selection from Sarasantes opera "Carmen."
