Teacher shouldn't bash own
department
This letter is in response
to Purdue staff's Natalie Reese concerning her recent letter (Wednesday)
bashing her own department the School of Education. Ms. Reese,
take a moment to think about everything you said in your letter.
Every student attending this
University is here for one reason. We all want to continue to educate
ourselves. You said all education students should get out of the program
as soon as we could. Are you implying that there are easier ways to
go about getting a degree in education? Now, call me an ignorant college
student, but aren't you contradicting everything a teacher stands for?
You want us to take the easy way out? I would rather stay here, stressed
as I am, and work my butt off, than to go to some nameless university
to pursue my degree much easier. How do you think people get good at
what they do? It all relates to the amount of time you put into studying
and effort you put into your work! You of all people should know that.
Every project, paper, Web site, movie analysis and book I've read, wrote
or done, is relevant to what I and everyone else in the school, want
to do. In 10 years, take a student majoring in education from each one
of those universities you mentioned, including Purdue, and compare them.
Now, common sense tells you that where the Purdue graduates will be
is where people who put 10 times as much work into getting their degree
than the students at other universities.
