Trustees increase ticket prices, feesBy Laura Pelner The fees for athletic tickets and for living in University Residences will increase next semester, but University officials said the new prices will be reasonable. "We strive to keep all of our costs as affordable as possible," said Joe Bennett, vice president of University relations. Students living in the residence halls will pay about $300 more in the next academic year, an average of $5,365 for a room and the 15 meal-per-week plan. With the 10 meal-per-week plan the average rate will be $5,117 and with the 20 meal-per-week plan the average rate will be $5,793. The average rent for the Purdue Village apartments is also increasing to $491.40 a month. Tickets for football and men's and women's basketball games will also increase. Football season ticket prices will rise between $10 and $12 for students, faculty and staff and the general public; and single-game tickets will rise $2 to $3 a game. Also, certain games that are labeled premium games, like those against Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State and Indiana University will be $41 for faculty and staff and the general public, and will be $20 for students. Indiana loses congressional seatAccording to the U.S. Census Bureau, Indiana's population growth has not kept up with the rest of the nation and the state will lose one congressional seat in the House of Representatives next term. James McCann, professor of political science, said that as a result, district lines in Indiana must be redrawn in two years. District lines determine what areas of the state members of Congress represent.
