peace march
By Kurt Esposito

As a precursor to the Martin Luther King Musical
Celebration: True Freedom program at the Loeb Playhouse, the Black Student
Union will host a peace march leading up to the event.
The Black Student Union Peace March will take place
at 6 p.m. on Jan. 15, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, at the Black Cultural
Center. Anybody can participate in the march.
"We just hope a lot of people come out and remember
what the day is all about," said Maureen Duncan, president of the Black
Student Union.
From the Black Cultural Center the peace march
will go south on Russell Street, then turn east onto State Street and
conclude at Stewart Center.
After the march, the program will begin at 7 p.m.
in Loeb Playhouse. The program will feature performances by the MLK
Mass Choir and PMO Express and a keynote speech by Purdue President
Martin Jischke. The event is sponsored by the Hope Ministries Foundation,
the Kitchen Table and the Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship.
This is the fourth year the Black Student Union
is hosting the event. Last year there was a turnout of 40 people and
the members of the Black Student Union are hoping for even more this
year.
"We've had our ups and downs, but this year we're
getting back on progress," said Christine Bynum, treasurer of the Black
Student Union.
