The Purdue reserves outscored the entire Northwestern squad by nine points on Sunday. After adding in the contributions of the Boiler starters, though, the game wasn't that close.

The No. 6 Boilers (15-3, 5-0 Big Ten) beat the Wildcats (4-11, 0-5) 94-37 in front of a season-high 8,651 fans in Mackey Arena. It was Purdue's seventh straight victory.

Coach Kristy Curry said she was glad to get extended playing time for many of the Boiler bench players.

"It's really important," said Curry. "They practice so hard. I have faith and confidence in any of those kids to go to in any game situation. But I'm excited that we could get some game like minutes."

RARE SHOT: Purdue's Rodney Smith attempts a shot during the second half of Purdue's loss. Smith's absence due to foul trouble was a key to the game.

When things aren’t going well for Rodney Smith, they usually aren’t going well for Purdue.

In Saturday’s 83-73 loss, things didn’t go well for either.

With Purdue up 2-1 1:08 into Saturday’s game in Mackey Arena, Smith sat down with his second foul. Aside from a 4-3 advantage shortly after Smith’s departure, Purdue never led again.

Iowa went on a 14-0 run after Purdue led 4-3 and the Hawkeyes (14-2, 3-0 Big Ten) held on for the rest of the game to come away from the contest in sole possession of first place in the Big Ten.
