Opinions

Government runs poorly by design

In response to the Exponent letter by Mr. Dalton printed on Jan. 10 regarding PSG, I feel compelled to offer my opinions on the subject.

It appears that Mr. Dalton is stunned by the inefficiency of PSG even when wielding an "obscenely large budget." Perhaps a look at the federal and even state forms of government will provide some information. Government is inefficient by design; I urge you to look at the number of bills presented before Congress and then compare that to the number of bills that actually become laws. Pointless bills are introduced in Congress, such as a proposed amendment to eliminate the Electoral College, but yet they are still introduced. Yet no one accuses Congress of wasting time, and its budget is the one that is truly "obscenely large." Perhaps the reason that the constituents are not being catered to is that the majority of said constituents are completely indifferent to PSG.

If Mr. Dalton is so offended by the inefficiency, perhaps he should become a member of PSG and try to correct this problem. I think he will soon find out that this is the best we can do.
