Consortium shouldn't receive moneyIn the Jan. 11 Exponent, I was saddened to see more confirmation that Purdue had actually joined the Worker Rights Consortium. I had hoped that money that I pay as tuition didn't really go to support them. Alas, it is a harsh reality. In case you're wondering, I do not support the Purdue Students Against Sweatshops. I happen to enjoy hand-stitched clothes. You can always tell which shoes are machine stitched and which are child labor. You just can't beat the quality of nimble 10-year-old fingers. Am I a bad person for believing this? Maybe, but what I think doesn't matter. What does matter is that my money is going to create yet another bureaucracy that will eventually bog itself down in rules, regulations and red tape. If you care so much, why don't you use my money to improve what already exists? Chris Malanowski |
