Swim team overcomes fatigue
in win over Spartans
The Purdue women's swim improved its record to
10-1 (3-1 Big Ten) with a 128-115 win over Michigan State, posting six
first-place finishes in the 13 events.
"The team really fought hard," Purdue coach Cathy
Wright-Eger said. "The effects of our Christmas training trip are still
with us and we really had to swim hard to come away with the win."
Purdue 400-medley relay team of Lisa Dolansky,
Lindsay Lange, Patricia Finnerty and Gyongyver Lakos finished first
with a time of 3:51.56.
Junior Kelly Mackus finished first in the 1,650
freestyle with a time of 17:29.19.
The one-meter diving competition netted Purdue
second- and third-place finishes by juniors Molly MacFarlane and Kara
Hajek.
Hajek was able to improve her scores on the three-meter
board for a second-place finish with 253.88 points.
Lakos won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:51.04.
Senior Missy Bromley finished first in the 50 freestyle
in 24.55 seconds.
Kimberly Paradeise captured first-place for Purdue
in the 100 freestyle with a time of 53.28 while Bromley finished second.
Dolansky finished in 2:05.50 for second place in
the 200 backstroke.
The 200 breaststroke provided a one-two finish
for the Boilermakers with senior Brianna Reina finishing in 2:20.76
and junior Ronica Rogalski finishing in 2:23.95.
The Boilers won the 800 freestyle relay with a
time of 7:43.30. Team members were Paradeise, Dolansky, Dill and Lakos.
The Boilers will return to action at 1 p.m.
Saturday when they host Indiana. The meet will be the final home meet
of the season and the final women's meet ever in Lambert Pool.
