Two Purdue employees have been promoted to the
positions of fire chief and manager of parking facilities.
Ken Alling, a 1984 Purdue graduate, will be named
the new fire chief of the Purdue Police Department and Mike Jasper,
a 1980 Purdue graduate, was named the manager of parking facilities
earlier this month.
The director of Purdue Safety and Security, Bill
Coghill, hired the men and made the announcements.
Effective Jan. 1, Alling took over the position
left vacant by Tom Adams.
Previously, Alling worked as a fire fighter and
an emergency medical technician in the Purdue Fire Department for five
years. He also has been a volunteer fire fighter and emergency medical
technician for eight years.
"Fire service is changing and in order to serve
the people we're going to have to change where we're going and become
more program oriented," said Alling.
Alling plans to continue with the fire safety awareness
and CPR programs, as well as initiating programs about the usage of
automatic external defibrillators.
He also said that he anticipates getting involved
with Boiler Gold Rush, so that he can educate Purdue students about
fire safety when they first arrive on campus.
He said the main goal of the department is to educate
students, faculty and staff about fire safety and prevention.
Alling graduated from the School of Humanities
(now called the School of Liberal Arts) and served as an assistant manager
in the residence halls for eight years.
Effective Jan. 16, Jasper took over as parking
manager, the position left vacant by Donna Kemper.
Prior to becoming the manager of parking facilities
Jasper was the business manager of the School of Agriculture, responsible
for the departments of botany and plant pathology, animal sciences and
agronomy. He has also served as the business administrator of the department
of agricultural and biological engineering.
He said parking facilities will continue to administer
the parking policy, oversee permit sales, enforce parking violations
and schedule parking for special events.
Jasper graduated from the School of Agriculture.
