Wrestlers lose two meets
despite close matches
The Purdue wrestling team came close to upsetting
two ranked opponents this weekend.
Ohio State 19, Purdue 12
Sunday the Boilers fell to No. 16 Ohio State in
Columbus, Ohio.
Three matches in the 19-12 loss were decided by
one point.
"I thought we had a good effort," Purdue coach
Jessie Reyes said. "I thought the performances of Ryan Lange, Evan Robinson
and Jason Silverstein really stood out today."
Silverstein improved to 15-3 overall and 2-0 in
the Big Ten after a victory over Ohio State's Kore Sharpley. It was
Silverstein's fifth consecutive victory, as he is off to the second
15-3 start of his career. After his freshman All-American campaign,
Silverstein was 15-3 after 18 matches. Last season, he was 14-4.
Evan Robinson (16-2) won his 10th match in a row
and also improved to 2-0 in the Big Ten after a win over 17th-ranked
Jeff Ratliff. Robinson is off to his second consecutive 16-2 start and
his second consecutive year with 10 wins in a row. Last season, Robinson
won his first 10 matches.
Ryan Lange continued to excel. He defeated Ryan
Hieber to pick up his team-high 21st victory of the season. Lange is
also 2-0 in Big Ten competition.
