Police find student dead in apartment

A Purdue student was found dead in her West Lafayette apartment Monday morning.

According to Lt. Jason Dombkowski of the West Lafayette Police Department, Laura M. Williams, 21, of 434 N. Grant St. Apt. 1, was found dead in her bedroom at 11:35 a.m. Monday. She was last seen alive by her roommates late Sunday afternoon.

Dombkowski said Williams' roommates became concerned after unsuccessful attempts to contact her in her locked bedroom.

Daniel Goebbert, Williams' roommate and junior in the School of Science, said he suspected Williams was in her bedroom because the door was locked.

Political shifts worry local organizations

A celebration hosted by the local Planned Parenthood was held Monday night for the anniversary of the Roe v. Wade case. The Supreme Court's decision in this case gave women the choice to have legal abortions.

Dinah Farrington, public policy person for Planned Parenthood, feared that this would be the last celebration of the anniversary. She said that government interference would take away a woman's right to have an abortion.

According to Farrington, under half of legislative and Senate members in Indiana are abortion rights supporters. This will mean that anti-abortion legislation is more likely to be passed in Indiana.

Senate debates Monday evening exams

Over the course of the semester 86,000 evening exams will be handed out to students.

On Monday afternoon the University Senate discussed changing the evening exam schedule to allow exams on Monday nights, which will reduce the number of students who have multiple exams on one night.

By adding exams on Monday, which has traditionally been reserved for fraternity, sorority and student club meetings, administrators hope to solve the problems with scheduling the tests.
