Student defends Boilermaker fans

This is in response to Mr. Kramer's Jan. 22 Exponent letter entitled "Alumnus expresses disappointment."

Frankly, Mr. Kramer, you have no clue what is going on in the sports world. If you would actually do some research on the topic of sports fans, you would find that Purdue fans are not as bad as you would like to think we are. I am originally from South Bend, and the fans at Notre Dame are 10, no 100 times worse. During the Purdue/Notre Dame football game this past season, we were constantly harassed by Notre Dame fans everywhere we went. They were very rude and showed no politeness toward any of the Purdue faithful. Have you ever attended a game at Assembly Hall at IU? Not only is the design of the building an architectural nightmare, but the student fans are even worse.

If you think what the fans at Purdue did to poor Luke Recker was bad, why don't you take a look at any Purdue/IU basketball game that is played at Assembly Hall and I guarantee you that the fans there are much more "classy" as you like to say. If you did not get that, it was a joke. I'm not saying that the cheering, or taunting, that we do here is right, but it is a part of the game that will remain for as long as sports are still played. Just enjoy the games. Nobody said that you have to make comments. Just do not jump to conclusions about our student fans. We are what bring in revenues for our great sports here at Purdue.
