Judge dismisses harassment
case
From Staff Reports
A federal court judge dismissed a former Purdue
professors lawsuit against the University Thursday, ruling that
Purdue was justified in firing him for harassing a student.
Dong Shaw, a former industrial engineering professor,
was fired in 1997 after being accused by a female student of coming
to her University residence unescorted and uninvited, berating her when
she refused to date him and following her to her parents house
in New York during Winter Break.
Joseph Bennett, vice president of University Relations,
said the decision was not a surprise.
"They reached the conclusion that Purdue acted
appropriately and that the individuals named in the lawsuit acted appropriately
as well," he said.
The judge ruled both sides will pay their own court
fees.
