The Purdue Student Union Board will be holding
its second annual Super Bowl party on Sunday where Purdue students can
watch the Ravens and the Giants battle it out on a big-screen TV.
Bryan Wallace, a junior in the School of Agriculture
and director of recreation in PSUB, said he helped to plan the first
Super Bowl party. He decided to organize it again this year to help
turn the event into a tradition.
The party will be held in the Purdue Memorial Union
basement in La Pozada, across from the Stripe Shop. "The Union is a
fun pace to be; it's a nice alternative," Wallace said.
Last year's party was held upstairs in the Union.
Wallace said organizers decided to move the party downstairs in order
to get the largest television possible. According to Wallace, around
40 to 50 people attended last year's party, and he expects a decent
number of people to show up this year as well.
Manan Relia, a sophomore in the School of Science,
attended last year's celebration and plans to attend the upcoming one
as well. "It's a nice place and almost all of my friends will be going,"
he said.
Relia said the Union has a cheerful atmosphere
and it is a good place to hang out and have fun.
Along with watching the game, there will be door
prizes and games at the party. Wallace said Coca-Cola donated multiple
prizes, such as CDs and backpacks, and there will also be an Eddie Bauer
sweatshirt and miniature footballs up for grabs. Free popcorn will also
be offered.
Aaron Goodman, a freshman in the School of Consumer
and Family Sciences, plans to attend the party as well. "Most of my
friends are going," he said. "I'm going to hang out with friends and
have a good time."
Wallace said the party would begin at 5 p.m. on
Sunday. "It is free for everyone, just walk over at any time," he said.
