Coach leaves Illinois
to join Purdue staff
Denise Baez, a former Illinois assistant, has joined
the Purdue volleyball staff. Her responsibilities will include in-state
recruiting, organizing player appearances and team compliance issues.
"In addition to having Big Ten coaching experience,
her outgoing and supportive personality will fit in extremely well with
our players and program," Purdue coach Jeff Hulsmeyer said. "I had the
pleasure of working with Denise at Illinois and Laura (Leaton) served
as her coach at Arkansas. Her familiarity with our work ethic will allow
us to all hit the ground running."
While attending school at Arkansas, Baez coached
at numerous camps. Upon graduating, she coached Sports Express, a junior
volleyball team in Mason, Ohio, and served as assistant coach at Cincinnati.
Baez joined Don Hardin's staff at Illinois as an assistant in April
of 1998, where she served until February of 2000.
Baez replaces former assistant coach Janet Jaeger,
who left Purdue to pursue career opportunities in another field.
