Boilers to swim in Quad
meet to prepare for Big Ten season
The Purdue women's swim team will look to better
its record as it hits the road for the annual two-day Big Ten Quad Meet.
The Boilermakers will travel to Madison, Wis., to take on Wisconsin,
Minnesota and Illinois on Friday and Saturday.
Purdue, ranked 26th in the nation, currently stands
at 10-2 (3-2 Big Ten). The Gophers are ranked 20th and stand at 4-0
(1-0 Big Ten), the 13th-ranked Badgers have a 4-0 (3-0 Big Ten) record
and the Illini stand at 4-4 (1-3 Big Ten). The Badgers are also the
defending Big Ten champions.
"This is our last dual meet of the year before
Big Ten's," said Purdue head coach Cathy Wright-Eger. "We are very excited
and it's going to be a tough weekend because of the rankings of Wisconsin
and Minnesota, but we love it. This is exactly what we've been working
toward all season, and this will be the best possible way we can measure
the success we've had so far this year."
Despite a close loss last weekend to the Indiana
Hoosiers in the final women's meet in Lambert Pool, the Boilermakers
continue their successful season. But Purdue will continue to look to
several different areas of the team for leadership.
"We're going to really look toward our relay teams
and Ginger (Lakos), Lisa (Dolansky) and Lindsay (Lange) for some key
races that Wisconsin and Minnesota can challenge us," Wright-Eger said.
"But by having the experience of swimming against these women now, we'll
be more ready for Big Ten's."
