Clinics provide necessary services

After hearing about George W. Bush's plan/attempt to pass a law that will ban abortions and cut funding for clinics and other organizations that support/offer abortions as an option, I am truly saddened to know that if this law is passed, many women suffer.

Places such as Planned Parenthood will no longer have the funding that allows for most of the services to be free. Many low-income families, and young college students as well, use Planned Parenthood for things such as annual exams, birth control, pregnancy, cancer and STD testing.

Just so that you are informed, Purdue Student Health Center offers female annual exams for $90, while Planned Parenthood offers the exams for free (based on income). After checking, I also discovered that PUSH also charges $30 for a pregnancy test, while Planned Parenthood is, again, free (based on income).

I am sure you have now gotten the picture that Planned Parenthood is a wonderful organization that helps those who do not have the means to pay for such important examinations and services. By taking away this organization's funding, these services will no longer be available free of charge to those that rely on it.

Abortion is a big issue, but it should not be attacked in such a way that it destroys the wonderful services that places such as Planned Parenthood provide. Think about it. If you take away these services that are provided to low income families and students, it will not make them stop having sex, and these women are more likely to get pregnant. If more unwanted pregnancies occur, there is also the chance for more abortions. Is that what the government really wants? I think they should think their plan through again and realize how many flaws it currently holds.
