Men's swim team wins one, loses one

The Purdue men's swim team went 1-1 in its trip to Madison, Wis., this weekend.

The Boilermakers (6-3, 3-3 Big Ten) defeated Wisconsin, 193-153, and Minnesota defeated the Boilermakers 235-117.

"This was the first of three important Big Ten competition weekends for us," Purdue coach Dan Ross said. "It was great for us to be able to beat Wisconsin at their home pool; it gives us a good confidence level to work at now for these next important competitions before Big Ten's."

In the 400 individual medley, senior Matt Martin gathered one of his first-place finishes in 4:00.74. His other win came in the 500 free, in 4:34.68.

Led by junior Kevin Young, the Boilermakers finished second and third in diving against the Badgers and third and fifth against the Gophers.
