Ennis |
From Staff Reports
The Purdue football player who was suspended from the team prior to the Jan. 1 Rose Bowl was formally charged with two felonies last Friday.
Sophomore running back Steve Ennis was suspended from the team in December by Purdue coach Joe Tiller based on an investigation by the West Lafayette Police Department for
Ennis' role in an Oct. 22 altercation outside a campus area bar. He has remained suspended since.
Last Friday Ennis was charged with two felonies. Ennis was charged with battery causing serious bodily injury and criminal recklessness inflicting bodily injury. Charges were filed in Tippecanoe County Superior Court.
Ennis' arraignment is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. this Friday, at which time he will answer to the charges.
Ennis is accused of striking a student during the altercation. The victim suffered cuts and a fractured skull.
Purdue athletic director Morgan Burke said Ennis will remain suspended from the team indefinitely but will also keep his scholarship for the time being.
"At the conclusion of the proceedings, a determination will be made about further actions, if any, with regard to this matter," Burke said in a statement released Monday.
Last season Ennis ran for 82 yards and eight short-yardage touchdowns.
