Events to honor culture, history

To help celebrate the diversity of the black culture,

Purdue will be offering an array of events during Black History Month.

These events, which will be held during February, will be sponsored by a number of different departments on campus.

The events are open to the public and most of them are free.

The Black Cultural Center will begin the celebration of Black History Month today with "African Son, Rise!" An ensemble of three men will perform this choreopoem, which is a theatrical production written by James Chapmyn, the star performer.

Driver's health stabilizes

After almost a week in the hospital, the driver of the car involved in a fatal accident on Friday is conscious and in stable condition.

Matthew Cushman, a recent Purdue graduate, is in intensive care at the Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Ind.

"Right now he is more conscious and alert than he has been in the past," said Joe Golliher, a senior in the Krannert School of Management and a friend of Cushman's. "The doctors have said there will be no permanent brain damage. That's really good news."

President addresses financial dilemmas

Wednesday night Purdue president Martin Jischke told students it would be disastrous for the University if Purdue does not get the funds it had hoped for.

Jischke addressed students during Purdue Student Government's senate meeting about the possible implications if Purdue does not receive adequate funds during the next two years. These implications include limited funding for new buildings.
