Movie deals with important issues

I am writing in response to the Jan. 16 article critiquing "Save the Last Dance," specifically concerning the final paragraph, stating: "The story is perfect for those who enjoy love stories and good music, but not for those who enjoy a lot of depth." Hello, were we at the same movie?

Sure, there was the typical romance plotline, and some great music to top it off, but I find it hard to believe that issues dealing with interracial relationships are "lacking" in depth … or maybe that’s just the case on this campus. Many people fail to see the hardships that young adults face when dating within other races. "Save the Last Dance" simply portrays the complexity of these hardships, something many people on this campus fail to acknowledge. Feelings concerning interracial dating and relationships have become a taboo subject among many Purdue students, causing prejudices among all races. I believe Purdue has become a completely segregated campus, and movies like "Save the Last Dance" open its eyes to the fact that there is more to love than just color. The only ones lacking depth are the ones who fail to recognize this pressing issue in today's society.
