Law exists regarding snow removal

In Neil Johnson's letter on Wednesday, he expressed concerns about the lack of snow removal on sidewalks in neighborhoods surrounding the Purdue campus. Neil wrote "In some parts of the country, it is required by law to shovel sidewalks in a timely manner." Just as a point of clarification, West Lafayette does indeed have a similar ordinance that states: "Snow must be removed from the sidewalk six hours after daylight and after the snow has ceased to fall." For further information about this and other city ordinances, see http://www.city.west-lafayette.in.us/ordin.htm.

To report ordinance violations, call the city's code enforcement office at 775-5160.
